Day 5 – From the sea to the mesh

4 intensive days of London behind, let’s do something else, yes that was what we thought when we decided to go to Brighton. Looking for trains we figured out to go to Victoria station were we purchased our tickets for 51 pounds for three persons with the possibility to return whenever we want on the same day. So we entered the almost empty train at 10AM and arrived one hour later in Brighton. Yes the air smelled really different and better than in London, you could feel the sea in the air because of the salty smell. Brighton looks very different from London and is not as noisy and busy as London. We walked straight ahead to the beach to see the old and the new pier. First of all we walked along the beach and chilled somewhere at the water. The beach itself is out of red brown pebble. Having finished bathing my feet in the Channel, we went to the new Pier were first of all the attractions, food stores and the music are the most recognizable thing making this place different from the rest of the beach. The whole pier is such an exciting way because of it is such a big contrast to the first impression of the city when parting the station. When we went back from the pier, we bought some sandwiches in the closest supermarket and wanted to enjoy our decent lunch on the beach but this was not doable since we were besieged by lots of seagulls and finally decided to go in the close park not far from the beach.

Finishing lunch without angry birds we went to see the nice old part of Brighton. This part of town consists of narrow streets for only pedestrians. But walking through most of these streets I had the feeling there were almost only restaurants or jewelries, since it is in fact a tourist city, but it was nice though. Since we took a lot of time for not hustling, it was almost 4pm by now and we went back to the station and to London.

In the hostel we decided to have British dinner and found a great place on yelp: Mother Mesh, a tiny restaurant in Soho, between Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street. Because it looked so traditional we decided to wait half an hour on the bench in the entrance zone to wait for a free spot. The concept of the restaurant is really simple but great: you choose between several sorts of mesh, pies or a sausages and gravies, easy and tasteful. The pie, the mesh and the gravy together with the root beer were really nice. You could actually taste that there was no gravy powder used and the pie and the gravy, I would really like to go there again.
